The upcoming round of MLS action will feature a juicy matchup between Los Angeles FC and the LA Galaxy. It’s the third Los Angeles Derby of the year and Galaxy will look to complete a hat trick of wins.
This should be a fun affair with action at both ends. Bookmaker William Hill has the odds at 2.05 for both teams to score and the game not ending in a draw.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: July 7th, 8:30 A.M. (EST)
Galaxy won the first league meeting of the year 2-1 and also triumphed 3-1 in the U.S. Open Cup back in May. LAFC are now five straight games without a win against their city rivals and that will surely be bugging the team.
The previous results in the match-up should fill the Galaxy with confidence although it must be noted that they have only ever won just two road games against their neighbors.
LAFC will be hurting from the most recent derby results, but they seem to be well-placed to end the win drought on Friday. The loss suffered against the Galaxy is one of only seven matches LAFC have failed to win this season and they are leading the league with 36 points.
Carlos Vela has been running the show again for LAFC recording six goals and five assists across 15 league appearances. He’s always come up big in the derby against the Galaxy as well, although Vela might not be able to help his team Friday night as he’s battling an injury.
Being without Vela would be a massive blow for LAFC, but head coach Steve Cherundolo could have a couple of other superstars available for the derby. Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini officially became LAFC players on Thursday when the MLS transfer window re-opened.
The league leaders are getting a lot of extra quality into the squad and they might end up being unstoppable in the end. A big derby win would certainly get everybody talking.
The Galaxy will be hoping to continue to dominate the derby with Javier Hernandez leading the charge. The former Manchester United man has scored in three of his four Los Angeles derby appearances and appears to be heating up as he’s scored twice in four matches after going nearly two months without a goal.
Greg Vanney also has a red-hot Dejan Joveljic at his disposal in attack. The 22-year-old Serbian enters the derby with a four-game goal streak. He recently tore apart Austin FC with two goals and two assists and his confidence will be sky-high heading into the big match.
