Newell’s Old Boys have kicked off the new season with a five-game unbeaten run in the Argentinian top flight and will hope to extend it on Monday at home against Patronato.
Bookmaker 10bet has the odds at 2.00 for both teams to score at the Estadio Marcelo Biela and at 1.74 for both teams not to score.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: July 3rd, 10:00 A.M. (EST)
Newell’s have started the season with four wins and one draw while scoring six times and conceding only once. They head into Monday’s fixture on a three-game winning streak, which is the longest for the team since 2020. Lionel Messi’s boyhood club has struggled to make a mark in the local championship but the start of the new campaign is very encouraging.
Manager Javier Sanguinetti has made his team a very solid defensive unit and youngster Ramiro Sordo has carried the team’s attack. The 22-year-old has scored three times in five outings and no other player in the league has managed more goals in the first few weeks of the new season.
Journeyman Juan Manuel Garcia has also made a nice start to the campaign with a goal and three assists, and if Newell’s continue to pick up clean sheets on a regular basis and Sordo and Garcia get the job done upfront then 2022 might turn out to be a very special year for La Lepra.
Patronato have opened the season with a pair of wins and losses in five games. It hasn’t been the greatest of starts in the world, but the side from Parana will have some momentum entering Monday’s game after winning two of their last three matches.
Axel Rodriguez scored twice when Patronato beat Independiente 3-1 a week ago and the team opened its win account for the season with a 1-0 success over bottom side Aldosivi.
The side led by former Fulham striker Facundo Sava has scored the same amount of goals as Newell’s, but they have a much poorer defensive record and it’s something that definitely needs improvement if Patronato is going to take a step forward and develop into a midtable team.
Sava will likely want to see an offensive improvement as well on Monday as Patronato have failed to score in five of their last six head-to-head clashes with Newell’s. They also haven’t previously beaten Newell’s in the top flight, so Sava’s team has a chance to make history Monday night.
