Friday’s 1-0 triumph marked a winning start to a new era in Eindhoven as Peter Bosz made his debut as PSV’s new head coach. It’s an early sign that the team is on the right track and the players should be excited for what lies ahead. Tuesday’s match offers a quick opportunity to gain further momentum.

Sturm has a rich history, but the current side boasts minimal European experience and PSV is seen as a huge favorite in the match-up. A failure to progress into the next round would definitely look bad on Bosz’s CV.

It will be interesting to see if PSV continues its scoring exploits under a new coach. With Ruud van Nistelrooy at the helm, the team scored a whopping 128 goals across all competitions last season. However, many of last year’s attacking catalysts have left the club, leaving the likes of Lang with big boots to fill.

Strum has made steadily improved under highly-rated manager Christian Ilzer and it would be a sign of real progress if the team manages to be competitive in the Champions League against PSV. Ilzer has far less talent at his disposal and it will definitely be seen as a tactical triumph if the Austrian side gets through to the next round.

Similarly to PSV, Ilzer’s men have also made a positive start to the 2023-24 campaign, winning all three outings thus far. New signing Szymon Wlodarczyk has left quite an impression, scoring twice in two games in the Austrian Bundesliga and registering six goal involvements in total across three appearances.

Tuesday’s match provides a much sterner test for the young Pole, but Wlodarczyk must be full of confidence following the dream start at a new club.

Producing a match-winning moment at Philips Stadion would be very special for any Graz player. PSV is known as a very strong home side and last season the Boeren failed to win only four outings in front of their fans.
