Nitto ATP Finals: Can Nadal Claim Year End No. 1 or Will Djokovic Extend Dominance?

There’s no denying the fact that it’s been an odd year of tennis in 2022.

Arguably the world’s best player was barred from competing in two of the four Grand Slams as well as a handful of other events. Wimbledon lost its ranking points and a bunch more players were unable to compete. The result is that the NextGen of tennis has finally broken through, but question marks remain over how much of this was circumstantial.

Pinnacle LogoThe next eight days should shed some light on that as the Nitto ATP Finals take place in Turin. Bookmaker Pinnacle has all of the odds ahead of this event starting on Sunday.

Current Odds Date & Time: November 11th, 12:00 P.M. (EST)

Looking at the oddsmakers’ odds for this tournament, there’s one clear favourite: Novak Djokovic.

Despite being World No. 8 at the moment and having only played 30 or so matches this year, Djokovic has still been the man to beat in 2022. With one Grand Slam and three other titles, the Serbian has been playing some incredible tennis, particularly in the back end of this season. A loss to Turin alternative Holger Rune was something of a surprise in the Paris final last week but perhaps speaks more to Rune’s form than Djokovic’s.

A win for Djokovic here would see the 35-year-old move to six ATP Finals titles and equaling Roger Federer’s record.

Next favourite at the bookies is Daniil Medvedev, who has had a poor second half of the season in 2022. However, he is a hard court specialist and conditions in Turin will favour the Russian’s game.

A better bet than Medvedev to challenge Novak Djokovic, however, is Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard is paying 9.65 to win the ATP Finals and is fourth equal with Stefanos Tsitsipas. Both men have a shot at the year end No. 1 spot if they perform well this week, which will no doubt be a motivation.

This price for a Rafael Nadal win is excellent. The 36-year-old began 2022 by winning 22 games straight and has dominated on court when he hasn’t been injured. Recently he has been hampered by an abdominal tear and has struggled to regain full form after his return. However, Nadal has been seen practicing at full strength this week and will be focused on winning the one major tournament that he has never claimed: The ATP Finals.
