Wednesday’s Champions League program will be highlighted by the clash of Bayern Munich and Manchester United. The two European giants, who played out a classic final in 1999, meet for the first time in nine years.
Bookmaker 10bet expects this to be a high-scoring encounter, offering odds at 1.45 for over 2.5 goals and at 2.10 for over 3.5 goals.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: September 18th, 9:30 A.M. (EST)
The two last faced off during the 2013-14 quarter-finals, and Bayern won the tie 4-2 after dominating at home with a 3-1 victory. The German side is seen as a big favorite again, with United having hit a very rough patch and heading to Munich with a historically bad run.
Following Saturday’s 3-1 home loss to Brighton & Hove Albion, the Red Devils have kicked off a Premier League campaign with three losses in five matches for the first time ever. The team’s defensive work hasn’t been good enough, and with only six goals scored so far, things clearly aren’t clicking up front either.
Meanwhile, Bayern should kick off the new European campaign in high spirits. Thomas Tuchel’s men also couldn’t win their last league outing, suffering late disappointment versus Leverkusen in a 2-2 draw, but the team started the season with a run of wins and has looked very good with Harry Kane leading the line.
Big occasions such as Wednesday’s match were one of the reasons why Kane left Tottenham this summer. He’s been among the elite forwards in the game for many years, but the England captain has barely played in 30 Champions League games. Kane must be desperate to prove himself on this level, especially after struggling in Europe last season and scoring just once in eight appearances.
The 2022-23 Champions League campaign was a struggle for Kane, but he does have a good strike rate in Europe, having scored 21 times in 32 games. Kane’s history against United isn’t great, with him having netted only five times in 19 meetings with the Red Devils but three of the goals have come in the past three seasons.
In the previous 11 head-to-head clashes, United has registered just two victories, and Erik ten Hag’s troops definitely won’t have it easy this time either. Bayern has gone through some tricky times over the last 12 months, but the team has still remained strong at home, losing only twice at Allianz Arena.
