With two games left in the season, Bayern holds a minimal one-point advantage over Borussia Dortmund and can’t afford to drop any points. The team finds itself in a new situation after previously having dominated the league and wrapping up the title with multiple game-weeks left to go. Can the team and manager Thomas Tuchel handle the pressure?
Bayern’s wobbly league form was probably one of the main reasons why the team got rid of Julian Nagelsmann and replaced him with Tuchel. If he can’t deliver the 11th consecutive league title for the club, things would look very embarrassing for CEO Oliver Kahn and the rest of the board.
The German giants have won just half of the 10 games played under Tuchel and there have been three losses. The team does currently boast a nice three-game winning streak, but Bayern has won four league matches in a row just once all season and Saturday’s match-up isn’t an easy one.
Leipzig started the season with a big 5-3 loss to Bayern in the German Super Cup, but they nicked a 1-1 draw against them in the league and have caused plenty of headaches for the Bavarians through the years. The Red Bulls haven’t beaten Bayern since 2018, but there have also been just five losses in the last 11 head-to-head meetings in the league.
Marco Rose’s men have also enjoyed great form in recent weeks and head to Munich having won five of their last six league outings. The team has been getting goals all over the place and have conceded just once in the last three games.
Chelsea-bound Christopher Nkunku is playing his final games in a Leipzig shirt. Does he have something special saved up for the meeting with Bayern? Health issues have limited his impact this season, but he’s been one of the Bundesliga’s most outstanding talents in recent years and Nkunku’s numbers aren’t bad this season either, with him having recorded 13 goals and five assists in 23 league appearances.
