BMW PGA Championship 2023 | Can Rahm Rekindle Form in Europe?

BMW PGA Championship 2023

Golfing action heads to England this week as the Wentworth Club in Surrey readies itself to host four days of the BMW PGA Championship 2023. With $9,000,000 on the line and plenty of ranking points as well, given that this tournament is a “premier event” on the European Tour, there’s lots to play for this week.

With Ireland’s Shane Lowry looking to defend his title, several other golfers head to Virginia Water with plans of their own. Viktor Hovland is riding a hot streak and looking to claim his third title in a row, while Rory McIlroy has also been in good nick but is looking for his first prize since the Scottish Open in July. Jon Rahm, on the other hand, has gone off the boil and will be looking to rekindle his form here in England.

Whose week will it be at the BMW PGA Championship 2023? We break down all the latest odds with bookmaker bet365 and outline the best bets to make on golf this week.

Looking at the outright betting odds from bookmaker bet365, the recent form of Viktor Hovland sees him catapulted into the top spot in the odds ahead of this tournament. The Norwegian pays 8.00 for the win, narrowly ahead of Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm, who are on 9.00 and 10.00 respectively. These three are the big favourites, with Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick rounding out the top five in the betting odds, sitting back at 14.00 and 18.00.

Odds to place in the top five follow a similar order, with Hovland leading at 2.70 through to Fitzpatrick on 4.75.

In terms of the best bets to make this week, we don’t see Viktor Hovland backing up and winning three in a row. The 25-year-old might be worth a top 10 bet at 1.86, but the chances of him continuing his strong form, now that he’s receiving so much attention, are slim.

Instead, we say wager on Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irishman is back to his world-beating best, finishing in the top 10 of every event he’s played since early May. McIlroy is a past winner here at the BMW PGA Championship and has twice placed runner-up, including last year. All signs are pointing to another deep run by the world No. 2—back him to win for a nice return of 9.00 or to finish in the top five at 2.90 for those feeling a little more risk-averse.
