PGA Tour: Travelers Championship 2023 | Can McIlroy Build on US Open Narrow Defeat?

PGA Tour: Travelers Championship 2023

The champagne on Wyndham Clark’s jacket is likely still drying, and yet the PGA Tour presses on this week with the Travelers Championship 2023 taking place in Connecticut. You’d forgive many of the players if they took a week off post-US Open, but nine of the top 10 have still opted to front up and make the trip to Cromwell to compete for what is one of the player-favourite events on tour.

With the US Open being won by a dark horse contender, the big question is what that does to the psyche of golf’s big names. Will Rory McIlroy be discouraged by falling one shot short on the final day? Can Scottie Scheffler keep his motivation high after five consecutive top five finishes without a trophy? Will the Travelers Championship 2023 produce yet another surprise winner?

ウィリアムヒルWe break down the latest odds from bookmaker William Hill in an attempt to answer these questions and identify the best bets to be made on golf this week.

PGA Tour: Travelers Championship 2023 odds
Current Odds Date & Time: June 20th, 10:00 P.M. (GMT)

While Scottie Scheffler has not won a title on the PGA Tour since March, every week his odds of winning continue to become shorter and shorter. Now, bookmaker William Hill has the world No. 1 at 7.00 to win the Travelers Championship 2023, well ahead of the next best in the field. Jon Rahm comes in as second favourite on 10.00, marginally ahead of Patrick Cantlay and Rory McIlroy who both sit at 11.00. Rounding out the betting favourites is defending champion Xander Schauffele on 13.00.

When it comes to the outright betting odds, we say that Rory McIlroy is the best man to back this week. The Northern Irishman will be bitterly disappointed to have missed out on another major title over the weekend but there are positive signs that his season is turning around.

Heading into the US Open, McIlroy had placed in the top 10 of his past three events before finishing runner-up at the US Open. It’s this kind of momentum that McIlroy needs and will no doubt motivate the former world No. 1 to keep pushing and put in a strong performance in Connecticut this week.

Another excellent bet is actually wagering against Scottie Scheffler. The American has been wildly consistent this season, placing in the top 10 in all but one of the events he’s entered since October, and recently stringing together five top five finishes in a row. However, Scheffler is only human. He has to slip at some stage. The week after missing out on another major—despite being the world No. 1 and most consistent player on tour—is surely a time when his focus will lapse. Bet on Scheffler to finish 10th or worse for a return of 1.83.
