Golf heads to the Middle East this week as the DP World Tour stops off at the United Arab Emirates for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on the 19th of January.
Four exciting days of golf await as Thomas Pieters will attempt to defend the title he won here in 2022. However, the Belgian will have stiff competition from the likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton and Shane Lowry if he’s to win his eighth tournament. Regardless of how the next few days pan out, fans are sure to be entertained by what is a strong field in this DP World Tour event.
Bookmaker William Hill has all of the best odds ahead of the first tee off on Thursday, January 19th.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: January 18th, 9:00 P.M. (GMT)
Looking at the odds from bookmaker William Hill, there are three stand out favourites heading into this event. No. 26 on the PGA Tour leads the betting odds with a return of 11.00 for those who wager on the Englishman to win in Abu Dhabi. Right behind him are the No. 24 and No. 20 ranked golfers in the world in Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry, who are paying 12.00 and 13.00 respectively to win.
After these three leaders in the betting odds, the pay out increases significantly with the next best odds at 17.00 for Alex Noren. Defending champion Thomas Pieters is the fifth equal favourite with a return of 21.00 for those who back the Belgian to win consecutive titles at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
While Thomas Pieters will be motivated to defend his title, he’ll have a big task on his hands given the caliber of this field in Abu Dhabi. Tommy Fleetwood, the second ranked favourite in the betting odds, has won this event twice before, most recently in 2018. However, he fell just short a few years ago, coming in second place back in 2020.
One player who has performed even better than Fleetwood in recent years is England’s Tyrrell Hatton. While Hatton missed out on the late stages of the tournament in 2022, the year before he put together a dominant performance, winning the title by four strokes in 2021.
In terms of wagers we suggest taking, go with either Tyrrell Hatton at 11.00 or Shane Lowry at 13.00. Hatton is primed for a strong year and has performed here in the past, while Lowry is the highest ranked player in the tournament and has every chance of starting the season well in Abu Dhabi.
