Charles Schwab Challenge 2023 | PGA Tour Heads South as Spieth Looks to Bounce Back

Charles Schwab Challenge 2023

Any event straight after a golf Major is a little odd. With so much focus and build up ahead of the US PGA Championship last weekend, there’s little respite for the PGA Tour as the Charles Schwab Challenge 2023 kicks off this Thursday.

For the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland, it’s a double-edged sword. On the one hand, they excelled over the weekend, coming T2 in one of the biggest tournaments of the year. This is excellent momentum to build from heading into Texas this week. On the other hand, there’s bitter disappointment in falling oh-so-close to Major glory and very little time to recuperate.

ウィリアムヒルWill Scheffler or Hovland cure their PGA Championship hangover with a victory in Fort Worth or can a fresher player make a deep run here? Bookmaker William Hill has all the latest odds as we look at the best bets to place on the Charles Schwab Challenge 2023.

Bookmaker William Hill certainly thinks that Scottie Scheffler’s disappointment over the weekend won’t have a detrimental effect on his golf this week. The World No. 1 is paying a low 5.00 to win in Texas, with the next closest in the betting odds, Jordan Spieth at 13.00, way off those numbers. The rest of the top five betting favourites is tight, however, with Collin Morikawa, Tony Finau and Viktor Hovland all dead-even on 15.00 to win the Charles Schwab Challenge 2023.

What impact will the recent US PGA Championship have on players in this tournament? Will those who performed well continue to do so because of their recent form? Or will they be fatigued, giving way to someone who is motivated by a disappointing performance last week?

We say it will be the latter. World No. 11 Jordan Spieth had a poor US PGA Championship by his standards, finishing T29. For a former World No. 1 and three-time Major winner, this will have been a bitterly disappointing finish for Spieth, particularly off the back of missing the cut at the Wells Fargo Championship in early May as well.

However, Spieth has an excellent record at the Charles Schwab Challenge. In his ten times playing this event, Jordan Spieth has recorded eight top ten finishes, three runner-up placements, and one tournament win in 2016. The 29-year-old excels on this course and will also be playing in front of a home crowd, considering he calls Texas home.

Backing Spieth for a win here is nice and lucrative at 13.00 and the best bet considering that Scheffler is surely dealing with some emotional hangover from the PGA Championship.
