Salah scored his 127th Premier League goal for Liverpool in Wednesday’s 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton and now needs only one more to match Robbie Fowler’s record. The Egyptian superstar has notched eight of his goals in the meetings with United and the Red Devils must be seeing nightmares of him, considering what Salah did in the match-up last season.

Liverpool’s talisman hit a hat trick at Old Trafford and became the first player ever in the Premier League to score as many as five goals over a single season against United. He has scored in four straight league meetings in total against United, and considering the rivalry between the two sides, Salah would likely love nothing more than to get the record-marking goal on Sunday.

The Reds have been in shaky form for most of the campaign, but they have put together a run of four consecutive clean sheets in the league and the confidence has started to run back into the side. Can they now stop a very prolific United team from scoring?

Led by Marcus Rashford, United has netted at least once in 15 consecutive league games, which is the club’s best scoring run since a 17-game streak in 2020. Rashford has played a big part in it, and like Salah, he also has a great history in the match-up between the two huge rivals.

Since the start of 2017-18, Rashford has scored six goals against Liverpool and no player has scored more against Jürgen Klopp’s side over that span. The 25-year-old has netted more goals only against Leicester (8), though Rashford has yet to find the back of the net at Anfield.

United has been chasing down the top two and they won’t want to settle for anything less than three points on Sunday, while Liverpool likely won’t be happy if they finish without a victory either. They have been in great form in recent weeks, closing the gap with the top four to six points. With the chance to sneak into the Champions League positions within their grasp, we can expect to see the Reds come out firing on all cylinders, and this could turn out to be a very special encounter between the teams.
