City’s last three-game losing streak was back in April 2018 and the team is now in danger of having another such run after a pair of disappointing performances. Last Wednesday, Southampton ended City’s run in the League Cup and Pep Guardiola’s men took a derby defeat against Manchester United over last weekend. The team managed just one shot on target in the two games combined, which must be a big worry for Guardiola.
Some City fans might also already be worried about Erling Haaland’s form. He’s had a sensational debut campaign in England, but the goals have suddenly dried up for Haaland in 2023 and he has yet to score in three appearances since the turn of the year. The Norwegian goal machine didn’t even have a single two-game scoring drought before the calendar was flipped as he racked up 27 goals across all competitions.
City will be desperate to see Haaland return to form in a match-up that has been an uncomfortable one for Guardiola’s men. Tottenham did the double over City last season and the last eight league meetings have brought just two victories for the defending champions. Spurs have managed five wins during the span and badly need another one on Thursday.
With the defense leaking goals all over the place, Tottenham have struggled to pick up points for a while with only three wins posted in their last nine league games. They have recorded just four points in four games since the league season resumed and that’s clearly not good enough for a club with Champions League ambitions.
Harry Kane was the Tottenham hero last season at Etihad with two goals in a 3-2 victory and he will be out to make a big impact again against the team that nearly signed him in 2021.
Spurs might be struggling, but Kane is enjoying one of his best-ever Premier League seasons with 15 goals scored in 19 appearances and he should be ready to do whatever it takes to help the team bounce back from Sunday’s loss suffered against Arsenal. Kane failed to get a goal against the Gunners but hasn’t yet shot blanks in two consecutive Premier League outings in 2022-23, which is a bad sign for City.
