United shares the Premier League record with 20 wins from season openers but the team has been defeated in its curtain-raiser twice in the last three years. 12 months ago, Brighton & Hove Albion shocked the Old Trafford crowd with a 2-1 victory. A few weeks after the result, United also lost a home outing to Real Sociedad in the Europa League but that’s when the current unbeaten streak started.

The run of results includes 25 wins, four draws, and 17 clean sheets. Erik ten Hag has managed to turn Old Trafford into a fortress again for the team and Marcus Rashford has enjoyed the games the most. United’s No. 10 had a career year in 2022-23 with 30 goals and his hugely impressive campaign included a club record-equaling nine-game home scoring streak. Can he now kick off the new season in the same vein as well?

Rashford is set to lead the line Monday with Anthony Martial and summer signing Rasmus Hojlund both unavailable due to injuries. The defense will be missing Tyrell Malacia, but new goalkeeper Andre Onana is ready for his competitive debut along with Mason Mount, who already looks to have plenty to prove after struggling during the preseason.

Wolves start the new season with dark clouds over the club. Julen Lopetegui has left his post as manager due to the lack of summer spending and his replacement Gary O’Neil has had less than a week to work with the team. His first assignment will involve saving Wolverhampton from losing three consecutive season openers.

O’Neil will also be tasked with improving the team’s away form. Wolverhampton was defeated in all of its final four road games last season and went without a win in the final eight. The run marks the longest away win-less streak for Wolves since their return to the top flight in 2018.

The 2023-24 Wolves will look quite different compared to previous years following the exits of Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves, Adama Traore, and Raul Jimenez. Defensive stalwart Nathan Collins has also moved on after just one season at the club. The squad is looking relatively thin, but O’Neil worked wonders with Bournemouth last season and now gets a chance to repeat the feat with another club.
