The Netherlands made it into the Finals by dominating their group with 16 points collected in six games, while Croatia managed to sneak in ahead of Denmark with a record of four wins, one draw and one loss.
The home side is considered the favorite for the contest but Croatia always seems to have its best performances in knockout situations. The Vatreni have enjoyed a top-three finish in both of the last two World Cups. Can the team now make the final breakthrough and actually win something?
Luka Modric continues to lead the way for Croatia and Ivan Perisic is also set to play a big part Wednesday. He had a great World Cup, recording one goal and three assists, as the Tottenham veteran appears to age like fine wine.
The Netherlands has a much younger side but there should also be plenty of experience there following appearances at the World Cup and the most recent Euros. The Oranje lost the 2019 Nations League final to Portugal and must be very determined to avoid a similar fate this year.
Cody Gakpo was one of the stars of the World Cup and should be a key player again for the Netherlands. He had three goals in five matches in Qatar, earning himself a big move to Liverpool. The 24-year-old initially struggled to make an impact for the Reds, but he had a strong finish to the Premier League campaign with six goal involvements across the final nine games and should be heading into the Nations League Finals feeling full of confidence.
The two nations meet on the football pitch for a third time. They also went head to head in the 1998 World Cup third-place match, which the Croatians famously won 2-1 with a Davor Suker goal, and 10 years later, the two teams met up for a friendly in Split and the Netherlands got its revenge with a 3-0 victory.
