Scottie Scheffler is the odds-on favourite at 10.00. The Masters champion just lost his coveted ‘World Number One’ title last week to Rory McIlroy. Surely, he will be looking to take it back this weekend with a win.
There is nothing that Scottie Scheffler can’t do. He is a prolific putter (despite minor struggles lately), a world class ball striker and has a top tier short game. There is not one week of the year where Scottie Scheffler doesn’t have a legitimate shot at winning and this week is no different.
However, Scheffler has been showing (minor) signs of cooling off from his unbelievable 2021-22 season. Just two weeks ago Scheffler switched putters as he set aside the bladed Scotty Cameron putter that helped him to his first major championship in exchange for a newer mallet style Scotty. For him to change a putter that worked wonders for him last year, something must be up. Though Scottie surely has a good chance at winning this weekend, keep an eye on his putter.
When contrasted with his 2019-2020 run, Collin Morikawa had a lackluster 2021-22 season. The UCLA graduate was candid about his iron play struggles stating that he had been playing a fade his whole life when one day the fade turned into a draw. Naturally, this made him uncomfortable over the ball and his results were rendered equally uncomfortable for a player of his caliber.
Morikawa has recently got his fade back and will be looking to get into the winners circle this week. To do so he will need to have a good week on the greens. When you hit your irons as well as Morikawa does, all you need to do is make putts to be in contention come Sunday. If Morikawa can get the ball to drop this weekend then he will have a good chance at lifting the trophy come Sunday. At 17.00, Morikawa may be worth considering
Viktor Hovland is the defending champion of the World Wide Technology Championship. Hovland had some struggles in the middle of last season but after his T4 at the Open, he has been playing some decent golf. However, his last start was a T34 at the Italian Open.
Hovland has been a bit of a tough read as of late. How he will play this weekend is difficult to predict. At 12.00 to win, it could be wise to look elsewhere as a good result this weekend is not a guarantee by any means.

Russel Henley has the ability to go very low. He finished T5 at the Wyndham Championship and solo second at the Sony Open in Hawaii last year. Henley is extremely accurate off the tee and is an elite approach player though at times he can struggle with the putter. If Russel can get the putter hot this weekend, he will have a chance.
Last season, Chez Reavie picked up a win at the Barracuda Championship just two weeks after missing the cut at the John Deer Classic (notorious for being the weakest field on the PGA Tour’s schedule). Reavie is high variance. High variance players are higher value picks. Chez has not been hitting the ball well lately, but if he can roll in some putts this week and clean up his iron play, he could find himself in the mix come Sunday.
Brian Harman is a bulldog, he plays a scrappy style of golf where he gets around quite nicely despite being one of the shortest hitters on tour, and often finds himself out of position. Harman had a solid 2021-22 season making it to the Tour Championship. Look for Harman to build on last year’s success this week and grab a top 3 finish.
With a relatively strong field and a beautiful setting, the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba is sure to be a great watch. Tune in this weekend to see if one of the top three will get the job done or if an underdog like Russel Henley snatches a victory.
