Gerard Moreno and Edinson Cavani exchanged goals in May in a 1-1 draw before the Yellow Submarine grabbed the Europa League trophy with an 11-10 victory in a penalty shootout. All four of the previous clashes between the two had ended goalless.

The draw has also been a very popular result in Villarreal games this season with Unai Emery seeing his side play out seven draws in eight outings. The only exception was a 4-1 home win over Elche.

Villarreal have recorded four goalless draws in six La Liga outings and they started their Champions League season by splitting the points with Atalanta in a 2-2 result.

Manchester United kicked off their European campaign with a shock defeat to Young Boys. The Swiss champions battled back from a 1-0 deficit and took all three points in the dying seconds as United completely fell apart following Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s red card.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the lone goal in Switzerland and he started his second coming at the club with a three-game scoring streak, which created a lot of excitement around Old Trafford. However it’s all gone now following back-to-back defeats.

United dropped out of the League Cup a week ago with a 1-0 home loss against West Ham and they also suffered their first league defeat of the season over the weekend going down 1-0 to Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

With the addition of Ronaldo, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a very exciting attack at his disposal, but he’s struggled to find the right balance in the team. It’s been too easy for the opposition to break through United’s midfield and there have been too many individual errors from defensive players.

Troubles at the back have been a worry for United for a while now with the team managing just one clean sheet in 15 games. The Red Devils are set to rely heavily on Ronaldo and they need to get him scoring again on Wednesday to avoid another bad European result.
