Brugge beat Atletico last week 2-0 at home to become the first Belgian team ever to start a Champions League campaign with three consecutive wins. The nine points earned also already mark a new club record for Brugge. Carl Hoefkens’s men haven’t even conceded a single goal so far, sitting beside Bayern Munich with the flawless defensive record.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has faced 12 shots on target through three games, which shows that there have been a decent amount of good chances for the opposition, but the Belgian veteran has managed to show off very good form.

In attack, Hoefkens has relied on youth in getting two goals from both 23-year-old Ferran Jutgla and Kamal Sowah who is 22. Jugla also has two assists to his name this season from the Champions League. The pair scored both goals in the reverse fixture last week and they are set to be a major threat again for Atletico.

Atletico have only three points on the board so far, but they are still in contention for a qualifying spot. Brugge have beaten everyone in the group and there’s a fierce battle going on for second place as all three sides are sitting on three points. This makes victory on Wednesday massively important, especially if Porto and Leverkusen end up canceling each other out and drawing.

Diego Simeone’s side has been very inconsistent, but they generally tend to do the business at home. Atletico have three wins from their past four home outings and there have been just three defeats at Metropolitano Stadium for the hosts in 2022.

The two teams have previously met each other five teams and the results are even with both having won twice. Brugge have an unbeaten record at home in the match-up, but they have lost both of their trips to Madrid. The last visit came in 2018 and an Antoine Griezmann brace secured a 3-1 triumph for Atletico.
