Liverpool find themselves four points adrift of a top-four spot, so they have very little room for error left and manager Jürgen Klopp has called this one – and the rest of the fixtures – must-win games.

When asked if his side has to win on Sunday, Klopp said: “More than 100 percent, and even if the others all win then nothing changed really for us. But without winning football games, we will not end up in any kind of European competition.”

Klopp has never won at Old Trafford in six visits and, in fact, Liverpool are winless on the road in the league against United since 2014 when Steven Gerrard scored a couple of penalties in a 3-0 victory.

The result marks United’s lone loss in their last 15 home league games against their hated rivals. The run includes 10 wins and four draws. However, the Red Devils are winless themselves in five Premier League games against Liverpool overall and have been victorious just once in the last nine league meetings.

The Reds have had a rocky ride this season, but their recent away form is impressive with five wins in seven games. Meanwhile, United are chasing their fifth consecutive home win here and have a chance to match the longest unbeaten league run under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a 14th consecutive game without a loss.

Solksjaer’s men looked sluggish a week ago in a 0-0 away draw at Leeds but impressed on Thursday in the Europa League with a 6-2 win over AS Roma. They’ve had very little time to prepare for Sunday, which should boost Liverpool’s chances of success.

It will be a historic game for United as Harry Maguire is set to become the first player in club history to play 90 minutes in 72 consecutive Premier League games. We shall see if they can mark the special occasion with a victory.
