Sevilla enters the clash with an eight-game unbeaten streak while Athletic haven’t lost a single time in their last seven league outings. The home side also boasts a nice winning streak with five straight victories.

With the top teams struggling for consistency ahead of the final stretch of the season, Sevilla suddenly find themselves in the La Liga title race having been just three points adrift of table-topping Atletico Madrid before the round kicked off.

“Obviously we dream of winning the league,” said Lucas Ocampos after registering the game-winning goal in last round’s 2-1 victory over Granada. “We will play five finals and try to reach our maximum level.”

The first final will be against a stubborn side that has lost just once in their past 13 league games. The run includes a lot of draws, but Athletic always seems to score and teams have found it tough to match their intensity.

Former Sevilla and Valencia boss Marcelino has had an impressive start at the club losing only five times in 25 games during his reign. The 55-year-old has improved the team’s scoring rate and there’s been a big improvement in away form.

Athletic still boasts only two road wins for the season, but they have lost just twice away from home in seven games under Marcelino. The team had five losses and just one win in nine games away from home before he arrived.

Getting a result at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium would be huge for Marcelino’s men as Sevilla sits among the best home teams in the league. Julen Lopetegui’s side has recorded 12 home wins in 16 outings with three defeats – two of them have come against Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Lopetegui, who lasted just 14 games in charge of Real back in 2018 has rebuilt his career nicely at Sevilla with his team playing quality football while not conceding a lot of goals.

Sevilla have always been a very good home side and Athletic knows it very well with their last road win against them in a league fixture coming in 2011. They have avoided defeat just once in eight visits since then.
