The Polish star netted an incredible 344 goals in 375 games for Bayern and he certainly knows where the net is at Allianz Arena. Bayern are the odds-on favorites for the game but with an in-form Lewandowski roaming around, Barcelona will be fancying their chances as well.
Lewandowski is already on six goals through five La Liga appearances and no other player this century has reached the tally so quickly. He’s also made history by registering eight goal involvements with his first five games in the league, matching this century’s record that was previously shared by Rafael van der Vaart and Cesc Fabregas.
Last week, Lewandowski also made Champions League history by becoming the first player to score hat tricks for three different teams in the competition. Viktoria Plzen simply couldn’t handle him and it certainly won’t be easy for Bayern either.
The Bavarians enjoyed a spectacular start to the season with three straight league wins and 15 goals scored, but a run of three consecutive draws has followed leaving the German giants third in the Bundesliga.
Bayern have fallen behind in two of the three games and have looked incapable of putting teams away. Stuttgart struck back twice against them over the weekend and managed to get a 2-2 draw via a stoppage-time penalty.
Julian Nagelsmann will be worried by the team’s current form, although the Champions League campaign got off to a nice start last week when Bayern beat a tough Inter Milan side away from home 2-0. Maybe the team is simply lacking some motivation in the league after having dominated the Bundesliga for 10 years.
Bayern and Barcelona also met in the Champions League last season and Nagelsmann’s men flexed their muscles with a pair of 3-0 wins. This leaves the all-time head-to-head record in Bayern’s favor with nine wins to two. There have also been two draws from the previous clashes. Barcelona have never won in Munich, losing four of five visits.
