The derby started very well for inter on Saturday when Marcelo Brozovic gave the team a lead after 21 minutes, but Simone Inzaghi’s men had no answers to Rafael Leao and had to settle for a 3-2 loss after Milan’s Portuguese ace produced two goals and an assist.

Having also recently gone 3-1 down to Lazio, Inter have now suffered two defeats in three games and the mood around the camp can’t be good. It’s going to be a big challenge for Inzaghi to lift everybody up again. Inter haven’t suffered back-to-back losses since March 2020 and avoiding it again is definitely going to be the aim on Wednesday.

Bayern’s run of results ahead of the trip to Milan should give the hosts hope that the Germans champions aren’t currently at their best. Julian Nagelsmann saw his side get off to a historic start in the Bundesliga by winning all of the first three matches and registering a plus-14 goal difference, but Bayern are now winless in their last two league outings.

Nagelsmann couldn’t find a winning formula against Union Berlin in a 1-1 draw over the weekend and it was also 1-1 against Borussia Mönchengladbach the week before when Yann Sommer had an amazing 19-save performance against Bayern.

Bayern’s failure to take their chances will have Nagelsmann worried and he needs to get the goals flowing again before the talk of the team missing Robert Lewandowski appears.

Lewandowski scored a whopping 69 goals in 78 Champions League appearances for Bayern. Can Sadio Mane pick up the slack? The former Liverpool star has bagged five goals in seven games for his new side. He’s also already had five goals ruled out by VAR in the Bundesliga.

Mane sits on 24 goals through 62 Champions League outings and he should definitely improve his strike rate in Europe if he can maintain his start-of-the-season form. Inter have been vulnerable early in the season and it looks like a nice spot for Mane to get off to a good start in Europe and pick up some momentum.
