Dustin Johnson and Cam Smith Set to Battle at LIV Golf Bangkok

LIV Golf takes on Bangkok this week amidst rumours of the start-up golf league attaining official world ranking points. As the season is nearing its final week in Doral, teams are going to try and dethrone Dustin Johnson’s Four Aces.

bet365Is this finally the week that Phil Mickelson shows up to play? Or will Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith continue to rise above the limited field? Online bookmaker bet365 has the odds.

※ Current Odds Date & Time: October 6th, 5:00 A.M. (EST)

For good reason, Cam Smith and Dustin Johnson are the favourites at 5.50 to win. They are two of the best players in the world let alone the LIV Tour. With three majors between the two of them, they know how to win.

Cameron Smith could be the best putter in the world. When he gets locked in off the tee and rolling the rock, he can go ridiculously low. We saw this on the back nine at the British Open when he chased down Rory McIlroy to take the claret jug.

The Australian won LIV Golf Chicago by three shots while finishing tied for second was none other than Dustin Johnson. DJ has been in the mix in every tournament he has teed it up in. DJ is a complete player who is lethal off the tee. His game seems to be more consistent than ever. It would surprise no one if DJ and Cam Smith were battling down the stretch yet again this weekend.

The Four Aces have dominated LIV Golf despite Talor Gooch and Dustin Johnson’s backs being sore from carrying Pat Perez. Cam Smith’s Punch GC will be looking to take home their first title, but Smith will need some help.

Punch GC will need some help to get the job done this week. The man who may be able to help them is Matt Jones who finished 16th in Chicago. Jones has an elite approach and sort game, but his putting often lacks and he can be errant off the tee. He will need to clean up these areas in order to help Cam Smith to victory this weekend.

This Week’s Long-shots:

  • Cameron Tringale to Win at 56.00
  • Matthew Wolff First Round Leader at 26.00
  • Martin Kaymer to Finish in the Top Five at 15.00

Cameron Tringale is a relatively high variance player. These are the types of guys who hold value because when they get hot, they can be in the mix, but this doesn’t happen all that often so their odds stay low. Look for Tringale to roll in some putts and make a run this weekend.

Matthew Wolff is a birdie machine; he is also a bogey machine. If Matthew Wolff has a good round, its typically a good round. He can go extremely low so look for Wolff to come out of the gates hot and take the lead on day one and then fade into a top 15 finish come Sunday.

Martin Kaymer is a former world number one. He has proven time and time again that when he is good, he is among the best in the world. Hopefully the time off that comes with the LIV Golf package has allowed Kaymer to begin to find his game again and return to his former self. If this happens then Kaymer can certainly compete in Bangkok.

With the team aspect and the individual battle surely to ensue between Dustin Johnson and Cam Smith, the LIV Golf event in Bangkok is sure to bring fireworks down the stretch as the LIV season begins its decent into Doral.
