Newcastle have started the season well and Eddie Howe boasts a strong record with the team for the whole of 2022, but this fixture has been full of misery for the Magpies through the years. Liverpool have scored more Premier League goals against Newcastle (109) than they have against any other club and the Reds are also unbeaten in their last 11 league meetings in the match-up.

Liverpool had a bad start to the season, but that was never going to last for long and the team kicked into gear in style over the weekend. It was an incredible offensive performance and it came without Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota on the pitch.

Jürgen Klopp is missing a couple of huge pieces from the attack, but Roberto Firmino has just turned back the clock and Luis Diaz is also doing a nice job in easing the scoring pressure on Mohamed Salah. The Colombian winger has especially enjoyed his home outings, scoring six goals at Anfield since February – no Liverpool player has scored more at home in the Premier League in that time-span.

Newcastle’s attack could have a new look on Wednesday with the club having splashed out a record sum for Alexander Isak. The Swedish forward will be an exciting addition to the team although he might have to wait for his debut for a bit longer as there are some work permit issues to sort out.

Isak’s record of 44 goals in 132 appearances for Real Sociedad isn’t all that impressive, but he’s very talented technically and can also make his presence felt physically, so Premier League football should fit him well.

Howe’s men have already given Manchester City a scare this season and that will give them confidence that they can get something against Liverpool. An away win here would mark the end of a very long streak. Liverpool haven’t lost a league game at home to Newcastle since 1994, winning 21 of the last 26 clashes.
