Dubai to Host the PGC 2022! Will China’s NewHappy Go Back-to-Back?

The path to the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds World Championship leads to Dubai this year. With US$2 million up for grabs, teams will surely play at the highest level.

bet365Leading the pack are the defending champions in NewHappy. The Chinese representatives are given odds of 7.00 by UK bookmaker bet365 to retain their title with European team Northern Lights a close second at 7.50. Although both teams are coming in as favorites, this year’s competition leaves no guarantee.

Besides the US$2 million prize pool already provided, 30% of the in-game purchases for PGC 2022 items will go directly into the total money teams will receive. Last year’s total accumulated prize pool reached over US$4 million, which was double the initial amount thanks to a boost given by the PUBG community. The total money that teams will fight for this year will surely be interesting to take note of.

32 teams that were considerably the best throughout the whole season will look to compete coming from four different regions. The tournament is a grueling three week-long game of survival very much like the concept of the game itself until all of the qualified teams for the grand finals are named.

Last year’s recipient of the “Most Impressive Team” award and 8th placer Team Liquid is unfortunately not a part of the 32-team lineup which is a very disappointing yet an inevitable result given the release of their roster last August. The same can be said for eSports organization Heroic, who will miss out on this year’s PGC.

However, the European teams still look very solid with the likes of Northern Lights, FaZe Clan, Overpeekers, and Entropiq in contention. Eight slots are given to the European region which includes the winner of the PUBC Continental Series Europe circuit, Question Mark, as they beat teams that were qualified via points.

Headlined by favorites NewHappy, the Chinese scene will be represented by six teams. Without question, PUBG is a very popular game in the Asian region. As a matter fact, the two previous PGC events were won by Asian teams with NewHappy claiming the 2021 title and South Korea’s Gen.G winning the very first PGC in 2019 against FaZe clan.

Gen.G has since then rebuilt their roster and have an entirely new lineup coming into this tourney. They are still however, strong candidates to win it all. They have three players joining the team just this year in the likes of Renba, Speak, and Adder. Player Asura also served as the team’s choice. Meanwhile Inonix, who has been with the team since 2020 rounds up the powerhouse roster.

The battlefield will be filled with amazing players vying for the PGC trophy. Who will be the last team standing?
