The Shriners Children’s Open takes place at TPC Summerwind just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. Patrick Cantlay, Max Homa and Sunjae Im will be teeing it up this week in hopes to finish in the top spot.
Rickie Fowler and Jason Day are in the field looking to return to their old form, but young stars like Tom Kim and Aaron Wise are looking to stand in the old stars’ way this weekend. Will it be one of the top names or someone on the come up? Online bookmaker bet365 has the odds.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: October 5th, 4:00 A.M. (EST)
Max Homa is as hot as he has ever been. The Twitter legend from California won the last event he teed it up in then proceeded to go 4-0 in the Presidents Cup. Homa is a well-rounded golfer and one of the best iron players on the planet.
Futhermore, he is a winner. He already has one win this season and two last season. He looks to add a second in just three weeks at TPC Summerwind. If he can roll the rock like he did at the Presidents Cup then he sure has a chance. At 19.00 to win, Homa is likely the best value pick this week.
The main man standing in Homa’s way this weekend is Patrick Cantlay. The 2021 PGA Tour’s Player of the Year is one of the best golfers on the planet with every facet of his game dialed in. He had two wins last year including the BMW Championship, which is one of the strongest fields of the year.
Cantlay also had a good showing at the Presidents Cup going 3-1. However, his last stroke play event was the Tour Championship, so he could be battling some rust. At 7.50 it could be wise from a value perspective to fade Cantlay as we don’t know yet if his form from late last year survived his off-season break.
Sunjae Im is a ball striking machine. When he gets hot his approach shots resemble a competitive game of darts. Im is a high variance player, but he showed flashes of brilliance last week at the Presidents Cup. Nonetheless, picking Im to win at 12.00 does not feel like great value. Picking him to finish top 5 at 4.00 is a better move.
This Week’s Long-shots:
- Aaron Wise to Finish in the Top 3 at 8.50
- Seamus Power to Win at 61.00
- Tom Kim First Round Leader at 36.00
Aaron Wise is an under the radar competitor. He racks up a lot of top twenties and is one of the best approach players in the game. If Wise can have a good week off the tee, he is sure to have a chance come Sunday. However, I don’t see him taking down the top three guys, but he can surely get in the mix.
Seamus Power is an Irishman whose finishes are notoriously high variance. One week he will miss the cut while the next he will finish in the top 15. Power has had several weeks off as his last event was the BMW Championship. If Power found something in his long off-season, he could have a chance on Sunday. We will just need to see which Seamus Power we get this weekend.
Tom Kim was one of the main stories at the President’s Cup. The 20-year-old is simply electric. If Tom Kim rides his high from the President’s Cup into the first round at the Shriners, he could easily put up a ridiculously low number and lead the tournament on day one.
With some stars, some young guns, and some players like Rickie Fowler and Jason Day looking to find their old success, this weekend is sure to punch above its weight in terms of tournament hype.
