Bookmaker 10bet has the odds at 1.74 for Mbappe to net the historic goal anytime Monday. The odds are at 3.75 for him to either score the first or last goal.

Mbappe helped France to beat Gibraltar 3-0 with a penalty last Friday and that put him on 53 goals for the 2022-23 season. He equaled the record of Just Fontaine, who dominated in Reims colors in 1957-58 and scored a record 13 goals at the World Cup that season. Mbappe has notched 12 goals for France this season, adding 29 in Ligue 1 for PSG and 12 across all other competitions.
Olivier Giroud became France’s all-time leading goalscorer during the World Cup and tops the list with 54 goals, but Mbappe is already on 39 strikes with 69 games played and it shouldn’t take long before he catches the Milan man. The 24-year-old superstar has failed to score in just eight France matches since the 2020 Euros and Greece will likely have a very tough night trying to stop him.
Both teams have started the qualifiers with a perfect record but Greece has played only Gibraltar and the Republic of Ireland. They picked apart Gibraltar away from home 3-0 and enjoyed a 2-1 home win over the Irish after getting an early penalty. Monday’s match-up will be against a much tougher opponent and even a draw will be seen as a massive result for the 2004 European champions.
France has nine points through three games with a plus-eight goal difference. Mbappe & Co. sent warning signals all over Europe with a 4-0 win over the Netherlands in the opening round of fixtures and then beat Ireland 1-0 on the road before enjoying an easy runout versus Gibraltar.
This could easily turn into another walk in the park for the French. They have dominated the previous meetings with the Greeks, winning six of eight matches, and Mbappe looks almost unstoppable on the international stage. It would be very special for him to break Fontaine’s long-standing record; we should see a very inspired performance from the PSG ace at the Stade de France.
