ATP 500: Terra Wortmann Open 2023 | Stacked Draw in Halle as Big Names Kick Off Grass Campaigns

Terra Wortmann Open 2023

This week, the ATP Tour sees men’s action across two ATP 500 events, all in preparation for the impending arrival of Wimbledon in two weeks’ time. For many players, this will not only be their first time playing on grass this season after a week off following Roland-Garros, but the only chance they have to fine-tune their games ahead of the upcoming Grand Slam.

Headlining a stacked draw in Halle at the Terra Wortmann Open 2023 this week is world No. 3 Daniil Medvedev. The Russian will have hot competition from fellow players Jannik Sinner, Hubert Hurkacz and Stefanos Tsitsipas however, as well as wildcard Nick Kyrgios who looks to continue his return to the ATP Tour after missing the first half of the season. Who will come out on top and gain some valuable grass court confidence ahead of Wimbledon in July?

ウィリアムヒルWe answer this question and more by looking at the latest bookmaker odds from William Hill and suggest the best bets to make on the Terra Wortmann Open 2023.

Current Odds Date & Time: June 18th, 10:00 P.M. (GMT)

Looking at the outright winner odds from bookmaker William Hill, there are several genuine contenders heading into this tournament. Medvedev leads the pack at 4.50, while Jannik Sinner is not far behind on 6.50. Hubert Hurkacz is the third favourite on his favoured surface, while Stefanos Tsitsipas is level with the Pole on 8.50 as well. Roland-Garros semi-finalist Alexander Zverev rounds out the top five on 9.00, with Nick Kyrgios sitting at seventh equal on 17.00.

This is a tough field to call, partly because of the transition from clay to grass that many players are making, but also because of the field’s depth. Someone like Hubert Hurkacz, for example, did not have a great clay season, but thrives on the fast-paced grass that favours his big serve and backhand. Can he shake his poor form or will this linger? The same applies to plenty others in the draw.

Add in the likes of Nick Kyrgios and Jan-Lennard Struff and this is a volatile draw. Struff comes to Halle off the back of having championship point against Frances Tiafoe in Stuttgart—will the German build off his hot form or take some time to overcome the disappointment of missing out on a title at home? Did Kyrgios’ early loss last week simply dust off the cobwebs or is the Australian no longer the threat that he posed last year? These are questions we’ll likely know the answers to in a week’s time but are challenging to answer now.

Betting on Daniil Medvedev is the smartest route to take in Halle. The Russian had a great clay court season by his standards and was one of the form players of the year earlier in the season on hard courts. We say he’ll build on this and pick up a title here to remind the world that Wimbledon is not just going to be the Djokovic-Alcaraz show.
