Six of the last seven head-to-head meetings have had at least four goals, including the most recent clash when City triumphed 3-2 in a League Cup fixture. Pep Guardiola’s men are in dire need of another victory on Saturday as City needs to close an eight-point gap with Arsenal to successfully defend their Premier League title.
It’s been an inconsistent season for City and they are only now aiming to record their first four-game winning streak in the league in 2022-23. Having won 25 of their last 27 home outings across all competitions, the feeling around City should be pretty confident.
On Saturday, City also has a chance to equal a club record as they are aiming for a sixth straight clean sheet across all competitions. This season has been all about Erling Haaland and his goals, but City’s defense has finally shown up ahead of the final stretch of the season.
Haaland is nursing a groin injury and is doubtful for the match but considering how badly City needs a victory, you would expect him to play. The Norwegian star has already hit 42 goals for City and needs three more to set a new record among all Premier League players.
Whilst City hit a great run of form ahead of the international break, Liverpool was thrown into another crisis with back-to-back defeats across all competitions. They could now lose three straight games without scoring for the first time since 2009.
The Reds will need to get another big performance out of Mohamed Salah, who has a very impressive record against City. The Egyptian forward has scored in four of the previous five league clashes with City and boasts 10 goals and five assists in total in 18 games against them.
Liverpool is trying to secure a Champions League spot so they won’t take this game lightly either. Jürgen Klopp’s men start a very difficult set of fixtures that includes meetings with Chelsea and Arsenal, and Liverpool needs all the points they can get from the tough three-game stretch.
