Chelsea’s miserable Premier League campaign finishes with tough fixtures against Manchester United and Newcastle United, with the Blues hoping to avoid setting a new club record for most defeats suffered in a 38-game league season.

Following last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, Chelsea has suffered a whopping 15 losses in the league and another one would give the team an unwanted record. Their current record for most losses in a 38-game Premier League season has stood since 1997-98.

Five of the losses have come since Frank Lampard returned to the club in early April. He was brought in to save the season, but things have actually gone even worse for the team and Lampard’s record is shocking – one win, one draw and seven losses in nine games across all competitions.

Chelsea is guaranteed to finish in the bottom half of the league for the first time in 27 years and their record of 36 goals scored across 36 games is the club’s worst scoring performance in the top flight since the 1923-24 campaign. With the team completing the season against two top-four sides, things could easily get even uglier for the Blues.

United is looking to lock up their top-four spot Thursday, needing only a point to secure their return to the Champions League. There have been a few hiccups for the team over the final few weeks of the season, but the club has made significant progress under Erik ten Hag and a lot of United’s success has come on home turf, which is awful news for Chelsea.

The Red Devils are 28 matches unbeaten at Old Trafford across all competitions, winning 24 of the games and failing to score just twice. They also have a very good head-to-head record, having gone 10 Premier League meetings against Chelsea without a loss. You have to go all the way back to Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in charge of United to find the last time the Blues were victorious in a league game at Old Trafford.
