SKC has the home advantage, but for Real Salt Lake, playing home or away hasn’t made much of a difference for the team. In fact, Mastroeni has guided his troops to five victories in the last six road games. The team had a very rough start to the campaign but things have started to click and by building a seven-game unbeaten streak, RSL has flown up the table, grabbing the fourth spot in the Western Conference.

The improvement from Real Salt Lake has been a real team effort. With 22 games played, already six players on the roster have scored at least three goals. Mastroeni’s men have truly been a threat from all over the pitch and with better defense, who knows where the team might eventually end up. There’s certainly a lot of room for improvement at the back with RSL having conceded 30 times so far.

Kansas City has also gone through some horrible defensive issues, giving up 32 goals in 23 outings, but similarly to Real Salt Lake, the team has managed to recover from a slow start and is looking to make up ground. Peter Vermes and his players needed 11 rounds of action to finally get their first win of the season but over the last couple of months, SKC has been among one of the best sides in the West and the playoff spots aren’t far away anymore.

Things can look very easy at times when you have an in-form goalscorer on your side. Alan Pulido has been producing some incredible stuff lately, scoring nine of his 10 goals this season in his last seven appearances. He has just become the first Kansas City player in five years to win the MLS Player of the Month award and the Mexican veteran could very well be licking his lips seeing the defensive struggles of SKC’s Wednesday’s opponent.
