Action continues on the WTA Tour this week, as the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis gets underway on Monday in Tokyo. This WTA 500 event will see some big names back in action for the first time since the US Open, with the likes of Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula and Elena Rybakina all competing for the title this week.
With Swiatek making her tournament debut, and playing for the first time since losing her No 1 ranking to Aryna Sabalenka, there’s plenty on the line in Tokyo. Maria Sakkari will also be looking to build on her first title in over four years, while Pegula and Rybakina will be seeking to make amends for their US Open exits as well. We break down all the latest betting odds ahead of the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis this week with bookmaker bet365 and outline the best bets to make ahead of the first match.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: September 24th, 10:00 P.M. (GMT)
Despite Swiatek crashing out of the US Open and losing her spot at the top of the rankings, the Pole is a clear favourite in Tokyo, paying just 2.75 to win the tournament on debut. Behind the 22-year-old, bookmaker William Hill has a congested field of favourites, with Jessica Pegula sitting on 6.00, just ahead of Elena Rybakina at 7.00. Behind the Kazakh, Liudmilla Samsonova and Maria Sakkari are joint fourth favourites to win, paying 8.00 for a victory in Tokyo.
Can Sakkari back up her victory in Guadalajara this weekend? Will Swiatek show the WTA Tour that she’s not going to roll over and give up her No 1 spot? Are there going to be any surprise packages this week?
Chances are, Swiatek will make a winning debut here in Tokyo. A trademark of the Pole’s ascension to the top of the game over the past 18 months has been her ability to continue learning and improving. Having had three weeks off since her loss in the US Open, and with the motivation of having lost the No 1 ranking, we say she’ll come out looking sharper than ever, and carve through a comfortable quarter of the draw to win the title.
Those after a slightly more lucrative bet may want to consider betting on Jessica Pegula to make a deep run here, and possibly upset Swiatek. The American suffered a disappointing loss to compatriot Madison Keys in the US Open round of 16, but earlier in the hard court season was looking sharp, with a Masters 1000 win in Montreal. Should she rekindle her form from earlier in August, then she’ll be hard to beat on the Tokyo courts as well.
