ATP US Open 2023 | Is this the Next Chapter in Alcaraz vs. Djokovic?

US Open 2023

The final Grand Slam of the year is here, with the US Open kicking off this Monday in New York. After eight months of high quality tennis in 2023, the stage couldn’t be more perfectly set for the fourth major, with a budding rivalry between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic leading the way.

bet365Will the US Open see Alcaraz and Djokovic face off for the fourth time in 2023? Or, in what is historically the most volatile of the four slams, will we see a new champion emerge off the back of some big upsets at Flushing Meadows? We break down all the latest odds from bookmaker bet365 and outline the best bets to make on the US Open this week.

Looking at the outright betting odds from bookmaker bet365, as is to be expected, the US Open is a two-horse race at the bookies. Novak Djokovic holds a slim lead at 2.20 over Carlos Alcaraz on 2.75, before a big jump back to the rest of the field. The closest contender is 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev on 9.00, before Toronto champion Jannik Sinner comes in at 15.00. From here, the odds drop even further, with Alexander Zverev and Holger Rune rounding out the favourites at 26.00 to win the US Open.

In terms of the favoured quarters, Djokovic’s quarter, the fourth, pays the lowest odds at 2.05, followed by Alcaraz’s at 2.40, Medvedev’s at 7.50, and Rune’s at 15.00.

The big question heading into the US Open is will the tournament be won by Alcaraz, Djokovic or a dark horse? In terms of Alcaraz vs. Djokovic, we say the Serbian has an edge for two reasons. First, he came back strong in Cincinnati and won an epic three-setter, proving that he’s still very much engaged mentally in the rivalry and has plenty of skin in the game. Second, his draw is much tidier with the 36-year-old virtually walking into the final, while Alcaraz has a much tougher half.

Backing Djokovic to win at 2.20 is our recommendation, however, those who are looking to be a little more conservative in their betting may want to consider wagering on the first quarter to produce a champion instead. In essence, this is a bet against Djokovic—if for some reason the Serb gets upset, then with Alcaraz, Sinner and Zverev all in the first quarter, chances are the champion will come from here.
