Looking at the outright odds, we can see that this fight is neck and neck with Rey Vargas holding the narrowest of leads in William Hill’s outright winner odds. With a win paying 1.83 for Vargas and 2.00 for Foster, this is a strong indication that we’ll have a close match on Saturday night.
Mexico’s Rey Vargas has an impressive record for a 32-year-old, having fought 36 times professionally for no loss. The majority of Vargas’ earlier fights in his career were in the Mexican domestic circuit, however since 2016 the Mexican has fought his last nine fights overseas. Most recently Vargas claimed the WBC Featherweight World title to go with the WBC Super Bantamweight World title he won in 2017.
American O’Shaquie Foster also has an impressive professional record. Debuting in 2012, Foster lost two tight decision fights in his first four years but is unbeaten since 2016 with a record of 19-2-0. Eleven of his wins have come by way of knockout, most recently in 2020 against Miguel Roman. He’s a regular at 130 pounds and will be seeking to claim the vacant WBC World Super Featherweight title here in front of a home crowd.
We say that Foster will make a statement in his young career by getting the win over Vargas here in Texas even though it goes against the bookies odds slightly. Foster will be fighting at home and is the more regular fighter in this weight division with Vargas usually fighting down a few pounds. The combination of the size of Foster, plus his age, gives him an edge here over Vargas. It will be a hard fought match, but expect Foster to clinch the vacant super featherweight belt—either by decision or a late knockout.

Those who don’t fancy backing Foster should back Vargas to win on points. The veteran has won his past eight fights by decision and hasn’t recorded a knockout since 2016. If the Mexican is to win this fight, it likely won’t be through power with Vargas looking lankier each fight. While Foster should still have Vargas’ number here, there’s always a chance that the unbeaten 32-year-old will have the fight IQ to outsmart Foster and win this one through the judges.
