Bayern beat Barca 8-2 13 months ago in Lisbon to record their seventh win in 11 meetings. The Spanish side has tasted victory just twice, and they need to produce a big defensive performance to improve the record.

Julian Nagelsmann started life as Bayern boss with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach, but he’s overseen five straight victories ahead of the trip to Camp Nou. Bayern’s 4-1 win over RB Leipzig last weekend was particularly impressive.

Robert Lewandowski started the scoring with a penalty on Saturday and he’s now netted at least once in 17 consecutive club outings. The veteran scorer is already up to eight goals this season in only five appearances.

Keeping Lewandowski quiet will greatly boost your chances of success against Bayern, but it seems incredibly difficult to do even for the top clubs in Europe.

With Lionel Messi leading the charge, Barcelona used to have the same fear factor that Bayern have with Lewandowski, but the Argentine has, of course, moved on now and Ronald Koeman’s side will host Bayern as underdogs.

The big clash comes at a bad time for Koeman as he’ll be without a number of key contributors. Sergio Agüero still isn’t fit enough to make his debut, Ousmane Dembele is nursing a hamstring injury he picked up during the Euros and Martin Braithwaite has undergone surgery on his left knee, which could keep him out until 2022.

With Antoine Griezmann back in Madrid, Barcelona suddenly looks extremely short of quality and they will be heavily leaning on Memphis Depay until the injury crisis among the forward players subsides.

The Dutch international is off to a decent start in Spain boasting two goals and one assist through his first three Barcelona appearances. He also looked very sharp during the international break helping the Netherlands notch seven points from three games with five goals and one assist.

Bayern’s defensive record isn’t too great, which should set the stage up nicely for Memphis to have a big game. He has a pair of nice Champions League campaigns under his belt producing seven goals and four assists over the past two seasons.
