City has traveled to Greece after receiving some awful news. Kevin De Bruyne has been ruled out for four months after he limped off injured in the team’s Premier League curtain-raiser versus Burnley. With the Belgian absent, the Citizens will be missing a player who produced 10 goals and 31 assists en route to a historic treble last season.

Pep Guardiola has a world-class squad at his disposal, but any team in the world would miss a player of De Bruyne’s quality and his absence will definitely be felt. The rest of the team’s creative players have to step up and start creating more chances for Erling Haaland.

Haaland looked sluggish in City’s Community Shield loss to Arsenal, but he needed just four minutes to open his account for the new Premier League season and his brace against Burnley shows that Haaland has no plans to slow down in 2023-24. Sevilla knows all about the Norwegian’s quality as well, with Haaland having scored an incredible six goals in three previous meetings versus the Andalusians.

Sevilla opened its new league season with a loss over the weekend, dropping a tight game at home 2-1 versus Valencia. Youssef En-Nesyri continued where he left off last term, scoring a second-half equalizer, but Sevilla finished the match with 10 men and couldn’t hang on to the draw.

The losing start will have disappointed the team, but Sevilla performed very well under Jose Luis Mendilibar last season and the squad should still be confident of a good campaign in Mendilibar’s first full season in charge.

Mendilibar will hope to deliver Sevilla its second-ever UEFA Super Cup win. Only three clubs have participated in the game more often than Sevilla but a 3-0 triumph over Barcelona from 2006 marks the lone win for the team in six appearances. Meanwhile, City will make its first-ever appearance in the game, becoming the 40th club to have a chance to contest for the UEFA Super Cup.
