Can the 49ers and Eagles Combine to Reach the Over?

San Francisco 49ers podcast: Philadelphia Eagles preview

Sunday Night Football is always exciting. The headlining game of football Sunday, SNF has produced some high-scoring contests over the past three weeks.

Of the four previous games played this season (including NFL kickoff), only one game failed to score more than 50 points. Two games even reached the 60-point mark, which makes the over for tonight’s contest between the Philadephia Eagles vs. San Francisco 49ers interesting.

San Francisco has had no trouble scoring in recent weeks, but the Eagles have failed to be dominant in the offensive category. Of their three games played this season, Philadelphia has only hit 21 (or more) points once this season. That came against the lowly Cincinnati Bengals, which resulted in a tie.

Numerous injuries may hinder offensive production as well. San Francisco will be without Jimmy Garoppolo, George Kittle, Raheem Mostert, and Tevin Coleman.

As for the Eagles, Alshon Jeffery and Jalen Reagor will not see the gridiron today.

San Francisco has show dominance against weaker offenses. Against the New York Jets, the 49ers allowed just 13 points. The following week, San Francisco would go on to allow just 9 points against the New York Giants.

Philadelphia’s defense has allowed 21+ in each of their first three games, topping out at 37 against the Los Angeles Rams.

49ers offense sparks memories of Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl squad

Once again focusing on the over for this game, I think this will rely heavily on the 49ers and their production. San Francisco’s defense will limit the Eagles’ offensive core, so it might be a one-sided contest in favor of San Francisco.

As for the over? Even though the total points is relatively low, I think reaching 45 1/2 will be tough for this contest.
