Rams/Patriots Meet on Thursday Night Football

Cam Newton has more rushing TDs than many Hall of Fame running backs - Sports Illustrated

The NFC West is jam-packed with three teams all vying for the number one position in the division. Tonight, the LA Rams look to help their cause when they take on the New England Patriots.

New England owned the AFC East for years, but have since fallen off from the top of the division. Still, the Patriots are within range for number 1 in the division, but they cannot afford a loss tonight. A loss on Thursday Night Football would practically end the Patriots’ bid for 1st in the AFC East, a title they have held since 2009.

Tonight’s TNF contest is also a repeat of Super Bowl LIII, a game where the Patriots won yet another Super Bowl title over the emerging Rams.

Cam Newton and the Patriots’ O-Line must be ready for LA’s defense. The Rams’ defensive line has one of the better rush defenses in the league.

In the Super Bowl, Jared Goff was hit often and hard, being sacked 4 times throughout the contest. With some key injuries to LA’s O-Line, it will be interesting to see if New England’s defense can penetrate and hit Goff.

With that being said, the Rams are dominant in stopping the run, allowing just 93.1 rushing yards per game. That’s good enough for third in the entire NFL. For New England to squeak out a victory, Cam Newton will need to bring his A-game.

Super Bowl LIII: The Bill Belichick-Sean McVay Connection

Personnel has changed since the Rams and Patriots’ last meeting, so it’s intriguing how each other’s game plans will change. LA owns one of the better offenses in the NFL, but you can never count out a Bill Belichick coached squad.
