Vieira spent nine years at Arsenal as a player helping the team to three Premier League titles and four FA Cup victories. It’s going to be a very emotional night for the Frenchman.

“I am really looking forward to it. I had the chance to play for this football club for nine years. I arrived at this football club when I was a kid and I left as a man,” said Vieira at his pre-match press conference.

He faced the Gunners twice as a player and went win-less both times as a member of Juventus and Manchester City. Will the third time be the charm for him?

Vieira will become the fourth person to have played for Arsenal in the Premier League and then managed against them in the competition after David O’Leary (W3 D2 L9), Tony Adams (L1) and Remi Garde (L1).

Palace haven’t done too well in terms of results winning just once this season, but the team’s style of play has been praised a lot. When Liverpool beat them a month ago at Anfield, Jürgen Klopp said after the game that it was the toughest 3-0 win he had ever witnessed.

This will be a great test for Arsenal and their recent improved form. Mikel Arteta’s team took three straight losses at the start of the season and didn’t score a single goal, but they are now on a four-game unbeaten run which includes three wins.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has recaptured his form and the Arsenal youngsters seem to get better with each week. However, the jury is still out on them, and we’ve seen these mini streaks from the team before.

Arsenal haven’t done great against Palace in recent seasons winning just once in the past six Premier League meetings. The Eagles are unbeaten in their last three trips to Emirates.

Vieira’s team has already won one big derby this season beating Tottenham at home 3-0 on Sept. 11. They are looking to record back-to-back derby wins in the league for the first time since 2017.
