Belgium were dealt their heaviest defeat in recent memory last Friday when the Dutch were simply ruthless in taking their chances. The Red Devils lost their first home game since 2016 and it was the first time they allowed four goals in a home match since 2010.

The embarrassing loss should result in a big bounce-back performance on Wednesday. The current crop of players in a trophy-hungry group and they will know that the Nations League is their best chance of success on the international stage. They are looking to make the finals again and have to win here to stay in contention for the top spot in their group.

It’s the 20th ever meeting between the two nations and there’s very little separating them. Poland have won seven of the previous matches and Belgium sit on six wins. It’s been a while since they last faced each other as Poland won both meetings in the EURO 2008 qualifiers.

You could say that Poland started their re-emergence in the 2008 qualifiers as the team has been part of all the EURO tournaments since then and also got back to World Cup action in 2018. Lewandowski has been a key man behind the success and he should be eager to make a mark again in Brussels.

The Bayern star started his Nations League campaign with an assist in last week’s 2-1 victory over Wales and has now registered 14 goal involvements in his 10 appearances for Poland. Everything upfront runs through him and even the best sides in the world struggle to contain him.

Lewandowski’s overall record for Poland stands at 75 goals and 28 assists through 130 games. He’s truly a world-class striker and his presence definitely lifts the whole team as they will know that they have a decent chance against anyone with Lewandowski on their side.

Belgium have their own goal machine in Romelu Lukaku, but he was injured against the Netherlands and won’t play Wednesday night. It’s a blow for the team, but manager Roberto Martinez has plenty of quality on the bench and Belgium should be able to cope without the Chelsea man.
