13-time Estonian champions FC Flora Tallinn are off to an unbeaten start to the season and will try to get another three points on the board on Sunday against Nõmme Kalju.
Flora won the first battle of the season against Kalju 2-1 after coming from behind. This should be another entertaining affair and bookmaker William Hill has the odds at 1.61 for over 2.5 goals. The odds are at 2.50 for over 3.5 goals.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: June 18th, 10:00 A.M. (EST)
Flora have 13 wins from 15 games this season and they are actually closing in on a 12-month unbeaten streak in the Estonian top flight. FC Kuressaare were the last team to beat them on August 14, 2021.
Jürgen Henn’s side is enjoying a 30-game unbeaten run, which includes 24 wins and 90 goals scored. It takes a massive performance to beat them and Kalju will know that they have to be at their absolute best to walk away with something on Sunday.
Kalju’s chances might be boosted by the fact that the Estonian national team is largely made up of Flora players and they have just had a busy stretch during the international break. The two-time champions will certainly hope that Flora’s veteran star Konstantin Vassiljev is a bit weary following a busy period of international football.
Vassiljev leads his team with seven league goals this season and he’s had an incredible four-year stretch with Flora recording 39 goals and 47 assists in 124 league appearances. He’ll be 38 in August but it looks like Vassiljev ages like fine wine.
Kalju have 10 wins, three draws and two losses from 15 games, and they are led by the duo of Kaspar Paur and Alex Matthias Tamm. Eddie Cardoso’s team has scored 28 goals this season and Paur and Tamm have combined for 12 of them.
This match-up has been dominated by Flora in recent years and they are looking for their eighth straight win on Sunday. The Estonian powerhouse last lost to Kalju in 2019.
Considering the history of this fixture and how well Flora have done for nearly 12 months, victory on Sunday would be very special for Kalju. They were champions in 2018 but have since then fallen from grace and haven’t even made it into the top three in back-to-back seasons. Three points against Flora would be a sign that they aren’t far from returning to title contention.
