Plenty in With a Chance in This Year’s Hungerford Stakes. Will Tiber Flow Come Out on Top?

Tiber Flow heads a wide-open field for the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury, which is the standout event this weekend as the British flat season continues.

A field of twelve are due to contest the 7 furlong Group 2 race in Berkshire on Saturday with the biggest-priced runners only at 17.00.

ウィリアムヒルWilliam Hill has Tiber Flow as a 3.50 favourite with the odds shortening from 6.00. It’s no wonder he is well-fancied as he has won his only two previous runs over this distance and won a 6 furlong contest at this course back in May.

Last time out he was a disappointing eighth in the Commonwealth Cup at Ascot but a step down in class and up in distance could be favourable to Tom Marquand’s mount.

Waiting to pounce are Pogo and Chindit, both currently with 5.00 chances. With two Group 3 winners this season and a third in a Group 2 at Goodwood last time, Pogo is showing some of his best ever form after some underwhelming performances in the Middle East over the spring. Regular jockey Kieran Shoemark takes the ride again.

Chindit has had a good season in winning the Group 2 Summer Mile at Ascot, but that victory means he’s carrying a few pounds more than everyone else. Richard Hannon has only raced him over a mile this season, but his last win over 7 furlongs was at Newbury with Pat Dobbs on board, so is a repeat on the cards?

Next in the market come the two female horses in the race, both of whom seem to be solid each-way options.

A credible fifth in the July Cup last time and a winner at Newmarket at the start of the season, 7.00 shot Double Or Bubble has every chance of being involved at the business end. Jack Mitchell’s mount loves the quicker ground and will only have 9-5 to carry.

At 9.00, also carrying 9-5, is the four-year-old filly Happy Romance, also trained by Richard Hannon, and ridden for the first time by Hollie Doyle. Twice finishing in the middle of the pack in Group 1s this summer, she has two of her finest moments at Newbury; winning the Group 3 Hackwood Stakes last year and the Super Sprint Stakes two years ago.

Of those in double figures, Run To Freedom (13.00) has won two of his last three while Dubai Poet (12.00) looked happier dropping back to 7 furlongs last time.
