Newcastle United have put together a seven-game unbeaten run in the Premier League and will try to extend it against Southampton who have also been on the rise over the last couple of months.
Will the two teams produce another entertaining affair after playing out a 2-2 draw in their first meeting of the season? Bookmaker William Hill has the odds at 2.90 for Southampton to score in both halves and at 4.40 for Newcastle to do it.
※ Current Odds Date & Time: March 9th, 1:30 P.M. (EST)
Southampton started the season with an awful seven-game win-less streak and also had a run of six straight games without a win at the start of the winter months, but they have since then lost just twice in 10 league outings.
The Saints took a bad 4-0 beating from Aston Villa last Saturday, but it was an away outing and they have been very impressive in front of their own fans going 10 games without defeat.
Ralph Hasenhüttl has made some shrewd moves in the transfer market and it has started to pay off big time with the likes of Armando Broja and Tino Livramento looking like potential superstars.
Broja recently became only the third Premier League player aged 21 or under to have been involved in 10-plus goals across all competitions this season. He’s formed a superb partnership with Che Adams upfront and the duo will want to make a mark again on Thursday.
Most of Newcastle’s recent success has come at home, so they still have to prove that they can take care of business on the road as well.
Eddie Howe’s reign at the club got off to a pretty underwhelming start, but the team now seems to be getting better with each week. A number of players have reacted very well to a new manager coming in and most of the January signings have hit the ground running.
Ryan Fraser has impressed the most in recent games. The Scottish international factored in both goals last weekend in a 2-1 win over Brighton and he’s recorded two goals and two assists across the last five games. Fraser had posted just one goal involvement for the campaign before the run started, so the 28-year-old has made huge strides and looks ready to play a big part over the final stretch of the season.
A lot has been made of Newcastle’s poor defense this season, but the Magpies weren’t scoring enough goals either under Steve Bruce and that all has changed in recent months. They have failed to score just once in 10 league outings and should head to St. Mary’s Stadium feeling very confident of their chances even if only one visiting side has won there all season long.
