Last season Leicester lost 3-2 at London Stadium, but it was one of only three away defeats the team suffered during the whole campaign. They picked up 38 points on their travels, a tally bettered only by Manchester United (43) and Manchester City (45).
The Foxes kicked off this season with a 1-0 home win over the Wolverhampton Wanderers. Jamie Vardy secured the three points with a masterful touch on the 41st-minute mark. The veteran striker now sits on 119 Premier League goals needing one more to tie Steven Gerrard for 18th spot on the all-time list.
Vardy produced a decent 15-goal year in 2020-21, but most of his goals came early in the campaign and seeing him get on the scoreboard straight away in the season opener must’ve been a very pleasant sight for Leicester fans.
Brendan Rodgers finally seems to have found the right buttons to push regarding Kelechi Iheanacho, but Vardy remains Leicester’s main man in attack and the team’s success is heavily linked to his form.
West Ham’s attack is carried by Michail Antonio, who is on the brink of history after helping the Hammers to a 4-2 opening weekend success over Newcastle.
Antonio finished off the scoring last Sunday and he now boasts 47 Premier League goals, which puts him tied with Paolo Di Canio for most in club history. He’s scored in each of his last two league starts against the Foxes and with the big milestone in his sights, the 31-year-old is bound to be very motivated for the match.
A full house should also provide a nice boost for Antonio and the rest of the team. The London Stadium last had a chance to host a full capacity crowd on February 29, 2020.
The Hammers had a solid home record last season with 10 wins, four draws and five losses, but getting off to a good start in front of their fans has been a problem in recent times. They have lost the first home outing of a Premier League season in three consecutive years scoring just once and conceding nine goals.
