Racing has hit form after going through a miserable run of results. Fernando Gago’s men earned only one point in seven outings before stopping the rot and getting back on the right track. However, there’s still a lot of work left to do, with last year’s second-placed club sitting at a lowly 13th spot this year.
Gago has one of the league’s most prolific teams at his disposal but Racing defensive work leaves a lot to be desired. With 22 games played, the team has conceded 30 times already. There’s been a huge drop in performance levels at the back after La Academia gave up only 27 goals during the whole of last season.
Attacking-wise, things have clicked better for only three teams, and with San Lorenzo struggling to find the back of the net, Gago’s troops must feel good about their chances of outscoring the visitors on Wednesday.
Across the last five league matches, San Lorenzo has scored only two goals, and the team’s overall record for the whole season isn’t great either with 21 goals managed in 22 games. Los Santos has been on track for a top-three finish, but they will soon start to drop in the standings if things don’t improve at the attacking end.
San Lorenzo has so far managed to keep nicking results thanks to its league-best defense, having conceded only eight goals in 22 matches. Leaning on its superb defense, San Lorenzo has suffered only three defeats all season, but the lack of goals means that Ruben Dario Insua’s team has become one of the draw specialists of the league, splitting the points with eight opponents.
The draw has also been a popular result in the meetings with Racing. San Lorenzo won the last clash between the two sides 2-1 but the previous two encounters were both draws. The results have come after Racing had dominated the match-up by winning six of eight head-to-head games.
