Tuesday afternoon, the regular season is out and the postseason is in, as 16 teams from across professional baseball all fight to win the World Series.

One thing is for certain: the standings don’t tell the entire picture.Take the New York Yankees as an example. The pinstripes finished seven games below the Tampa Bay Rays for top spot in the AL East, but the Yankees and Rays own the same odds (+600) to win the World Series.
Add in the Toronto Blue Jays, who finished one game back of the Yankees, and the odds are not in their favor. The only Canadian team in the Major Leagues have made the playoffs for the first time since 2015, but again the bookmakers don’t side with them. Despite being one game back of the Yankees, Toronto is listed at +3000 to win the World Series. Only the Milwaukee Brewers (+3500) have worse odds than the Blue Jays.
4 of the top 6 teams with the best odds are from the American League. Only the LA Dodgers (+350) and San Diego Padres (+1000) are in the top 6 from the National League. This means that the American League will be a fight, while the Dodgers are a clear favorite coming out of the NL.
